OUR FARM STORY

The Heart of Herefordshire

Lower House Farm is a successful 700 acre working family farm, based in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside.

Over the years we have diversified to keep the farm a lively and prosperous environment, whilst making the most of the land and views we have available to us.

We offer the wider community a space in which they can enjoy the great outdoors and we invite you to visit our PYO Patch at The Farm Patch - Ledbury (formerly Country Pumpkins), or our pop-up Campsite at Canon Frome near Ledbury this Summer.

Environment

Covering over 700 acres of Herefordshire countryside, our farm grows a mixture of cereal & pulse crops (such as Wheat, Oil Seed Rape, and Oats).

Operating a fleet of modern equipment, our goal is to use efficient and sustainable farming practices to achieve excellent yields and protect our beautiful piece of the Herefordshire countryside, for all to enjoy.

Cider making is a thriving industry in Herefordshire with numerous craft cider producers dotted around the county.

There are over 15,000 acres of orchards in the county, producing half of the UK’s cider. The springtime explosion of blossom is a glorious spectacle, whilst the sights and smells of the autumn harvest are unforgettable.

Starting in 2009, we planted our first Orchard. Today our orchards cover over 70 acres, with Cider Apples being produced for Westons Cider.

At Lower House Farm we strive to reduce our environmental impact through beneficial modern farming practices and choose to undertake many additional projects that benefit the wider environment.

Every year we commit to maintaining kilometers of field margins and where possible adding new ones. In recent years we have successfully planted over 3km of new hedges, and continue to evaluate where new hedges can be laid in the future.

Further to our efforts, we have been committed to rejuvenating our stretch of the Hereford-Gloucester Canal - which has now become home to an abundance of wildlife, including a family of swans and other birds.

The Farm Patch

Since 2020, Lower House Farm has hosted a seasonal Pick Your Own event, just outside Ledbury. Originally under the name Country Pumpkins, we offered members of the public the opportunity to Pick Your Own Pumpkins. Year on year we have developed the patch beyond the Pumpkins to now offer an excellent summer escape! We grow a wide variety of Cut Flowers, Sunflowers, as well as our popular Pumpkin picking! Furthermore, there's also a 'Bee trail' to learn about bee's, a maze, and we even offer delicious pizza!

Now operating under the name 'The Farm Patch' you can find out more from the link below. Typically we are open throughout the Summer Holidays for Cut flowers and Sunflowers; a perfect day out for a group of friends, family, or individuals wanting to a picturesque escape. We are then open again in Autumn, in time for picking your perfect pumpkin for Halloween!

EXPLORE & DISCOVER

There is plenty of history surrounding our farm. You can explore much of it by walking the winding footpaths that pass through our orchards, ancient woodland, and even the site of a Roman fort.

We maintain several kilometers of footpaths every year at the farm, so you will be able to enjoy your walks on well kept paths.

From time to time we also host tours of the farm, which you can register your interest for below; we'll let you know when the next one is occurring.
